Advocating for ambitious goals for students with disabilities
Every student with a disability deserves the chance to reach their full potential, far beyond what grades alone can show. Navigate the special education process with individualized guidance and experienced support tailored to your child’s unique needs. Jenn Choi Advocates, LLC is here to provide IEP support in New York City.
Who We Are
Jenn Choi Advocates, LLC is a professional special education consulting agency led by Jenn Choi, Founding Principal and Director of Training.
Our goal is to empower parents to understand the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process and advocate confidently for their child’s needs. We provide families with the knowledge of their rights and obligations so they can oversee their child’s educational experience and ensure their IEP is followed even after our involvement has concluded.
Some parents partner with us for long-term services spanning years, while others seek support for single, specific projects. No matter the duration, we approach every case with unwavering dedication and expertise. We are not just advocates, consultants, and trainers—we are peers of families impacted by disability who share the challenges of raising children with disabilities while navigating the complexities of education systems.
Let us help you with the IEP process.
When Families Hire Us
We understand that each situation is unique. Families typically turn to Jenn Choi Advocates, LLC in moments of transition, challenge, or uncertainty. Below are common scenarios when our services are most beneficial:
1. Beginning the Special Education Evaluation Process
For parents who are starting the IEP evaluation process for the first time, or for those revisiting it after an unsuccessful attempt, we provide full support from beginning to end. We help ensure your child’s needs are accurately assessed, and we’ll consult with you afterward to determine the best next steps.
2. Transitioning from a Special Education Private School
When your child is leaving a smaller special education private school to start public school in middle or high school, we offer vital support. We assist parents in asking the right questions to evaluate potential schools while advocating for an IEP that ensures academic success and emotional well-being in larger, more demanding environments.
3. Identifying Needs You’re Unsure About
If you’re uncertain about your child’s specific needs, we’re here to help. We will gather and analyze the critical information required to shed light on your child’s challenges and strengths, equipping you to confidently advocate for them.
4. Advocating for Students with High Cognitive Abilities
Children with exceptionally high cognitive abilities, such as high IQs, often face unique challenges because their potential is overlooked or misunderstood. We are passionate about supporting this underserved population. We ensure their abilities and disabilities are recognized, creating strategies that allow them to thrive.
5. Guiding Families of Middle and High School Students
For students with disabilities from 8th to 12th grade, we help families navigate high school special education programs and design IEPs that focus on more than just graduating with a diploma. We ensure these IEPs prepare students for further education, future employment, and independent living.
6. Supporting Preschool and Kindergarten IEP Development
We guide parents through the Kindergarten IEP Process (KIP), formerly known as Turning 5. The journey from preschool to kindergarten can be daunting, but we’re here to break down the complexities and ensure this vital first step sets your child up for success.
